the Military Works Account. I am also prepared to make

a subsequent credit to the War Department in that account

in the event of the area for the road being levelled in

connection with the reclamation of the Marine Lot. This

last condition finds no counterpart in sales of Marine Lets

to private purchasers and I find it difficult to justify

it except by my desire to meet to the utmost extent pos-

-sible the wishes of the Military Authorities.

I enclose a copy of the letter

in which I have proposed to the General Officer Commanding

terms in accordance with the above and of Major-General

Villiers Hatton's communication to which it is a reply.
